Exchanges

Fless Press has been writing short plays about modern life.

In the bookshop
Person A: I like the beret.  Very continental.
Person B: Thank-
Person A: A continental friend of mine asked me how we knew when summer was here. I said, "When the rain gets warmer." Ha-ha! Well, have a nice weekend.  Cheerio!
Person B: (-you)

In the park
Person A (running past, quickly): I like your beret.
Person B: Thank- (Person A is out of earshot).

At the bookfair
Person A (checking the inside covers of a pile of books): Jim, two.  Susan, one. Susan, one.  George, three. Jim, two.
Person B: Why do they have names?
Person A (looks up, momentarily confused, then realises): They're the names of the dealers we buy them from.
Person B: Oh, I thought it was code. (Pause) Or that you personally knew Graham Greene and he lets you call him Jim.
Person A (looks up again): I like your beret.
